Suggestions, Help?

This is probably going to make a short story long, but here goes anyway. I'm majoring in Graphic Design and the school sent me the whole Abobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium! I was so excited! until I tried to install and found that it came on dvd's not cd-rom. My computer doesn't have a dvd drive...So today, as a surprise, my daughter brought me a new in the box dvd/cd-rom made my Cendyne I have attached a link of the thing. Well on the box it says that it's compatible with Windows 95b/98/Me/2000 pro, Windows NT 4.0 it doesn't say anything about XP! I haven't opened the box yet because I don't want to waste my time installing something that might possibly not work on my computer. What do you guys think? Will it work? Please help!!!

i couldn't see anywhere that this drive is supported by XP. i would suggest that you purchase a DVD burner, which will most certainly be supported by XP. the only other way to find out if this drive will work is to install it and see if windows detects it. being a bog standard dvd rom drive i cannot see why it wouldn't work but in the world of computing nothing is guaranteed . but really if you want my advice i would ditch the dvd rom in favour of one that can burn dvd's as well as cd's. you will be much more future proofed. good luck

Windows 2000 and XP are built on the same platform, and I've never seen/heard of such a thing as a DVD player that would not work on a computer that would run XP. It's a plug and play device, XP should have the stock drivers for the device so as long as you install it correctly (master/slave/cable select pins) it will work just fine.

I agree. 2000 and XP are technically the same thing, just the GUI is different (and among other things but the "bones" are basically the same). I've never heard of a CD drive working on 2000 but not on XP, or vice versa. You could always get a driver if you absolutely need to. They usually don't mention these things. Heck, I have a "PC" Only mouse that is surposed to work only in XP and 2000 but it works on mac, and win ME. go figure

A top of the line normal brand new lite-on,pioneer dvd-dual layer burner with lighscribe downunder is under $60 with nero 7 essentials & power dvd 6.0 ( i think it's 6.0 ,i can't be bothered looking in my progs list),my point is they're well known brands with years of development behind them, drop a hint to your daughter that you'd like one of them for your next prezzie, but just search to find the most latest model, for review of said dvd burner products cnet is usually on top of things as is pcworld etc
